The Blog

Welcome to the CLC blog!

This is an exciting time to be in the Silicon Valley, and I want everyone to get an inside look. In the 1990s, we led the computer revolution that radically changed the way people did business, learned, and connected. Now we’re leading a new revolution in clean technology that could save our planet from global warming and create thousands of good jobs here at home. As someone who helped lead a little technology startup called Ebay and served as the chief financial officer of the State, I can tell you that we’re about to change the world once again. With groundbreaking environmental policies like cap and trade and a $1 billion investment in clean technologies, Silicon Valley is positioned to lead California’s next economic boom, and I want each of you to have a front row seat. Here on the CLC blog I’ll be posting interviews with leaders in the clean tech space. I’ll be interviewing policymakers, business leaders, and academics to give you an inside look at this historic time in California’s history.

June 3rd Primary - A Look Forward

Congratulations to all of our newly minted Democratic nominees across the state. Whether your race is for school board, county supervisor, Assembly, or Senate, we look forward to working with you in advance of the November election to ensure a smashing Democratic victory across California. We will be in touch very soon.

Field Poll: Yes to Gay Marriage

There is now no more denying where the state, and hopefully much of the country, is moving. This (reliable, I might add) poll clearly shows that Americans now favor marriage equality for everyone.

State must lead the way, once again, on car emissions

Last week, Steve wrote an op-ed in the San Jose Mercury News outlining some goals to reduce car emissions. Check it out below:

White House Issues Climate Change Report

It seems that the George W. Bush and the Republicans in the White House are finally admitting coming to terms with reality. A few weeks ago the administration released reports pointing to some of the destructive impacts. of global climate change.

The June 3rd Primary

The CLC would like to wish all the great Democratic candidates up and down the state the best of luck in their primary elections. From school board to city councils to Assembly and Senate seats, we Democrats are truly blessed to have such a remarkable group of candidates. We look forward to working in the general election with those of you who win your primaries, so keep in touch after June 3rd!

BTW, Congratulations to All New CYD and CCD Board Members!

At the Democratic Convention last month in San Jose, Steve spoke to the California Young Democrats. Both the CYD and CCD held elections, and Steve as well as all of us at the CLC want to extend our congratulations to all of you who won. We look forward to working with you all after the June primary to help elect more Democrats throughout the state!

California Democrats Increase in Registration

Our friends over at the California Majority Report and California Progress Report are noting that we Democrats have, in the course of three months, picked up just over half a percentage point in voter registration.

A Good Question in a NY Times Op-Ed

Michael Pollan made some interesting points about global warming in his op-ed in the New York Times yesterday. His piece is titled "Why Bother?" and it asks why we should care about fighting global warming.

A Note on Endorsements...

At the convention last week we had numerous requests for endorsements. We'd love to get to know your candidates better, but there won't be an endorsement process until after the June primary.

Missed this...

I was at the convention with Steve last week and I didn't notice this, but it appears that Mayor Reed of San Jose has proposed a 15-year, Green Vision plan that will enable the city to be entirely sustainable on clean technologies. I remember reading in Men's Health a while back that San Jose was rated the number one city to live in in the nation (followed by I think Honolulu).
