About the CLC

The challenge for our generation is to prepare the state and nation for the future. The California Leadership Committee (CLC) is dedicated to identifying, training, and supporting Democratic candidates who can meet that challenge. The CLC supports candidates who are:

  1. Problem-Solvers: Innovative Democrats must transcend partisanship and stand for something positive. The CLC supports candidates with practical solutions to problems like failing schools, inadequate healthcare, and global warming.
  2. Fiscally Responsible: Californians want leaders who will use their tax dollars wisely and work to solve the state’s persistent structural deficit. The CLC supports candidates committed to efficiency, accountability, and results.
  3. Culturally Diverse: California is home to one of the most culturally diverse populations on the planet, and it’s one of our greatest strengths. The CLC is committed to supporting Democrats who reflect the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of our state.

How it Works. The CLC makes it easier for people who care about California to identify and support the best and brightest Democratic candidates for the future. The CLC fundraises, provides political support, and advocates for sensible public policy.

  1. Fundraising: The CLC is committed to raising $500,000 annually for the best and brightest Democrats. Donors may contribute to the CLC or to specific CLC endorsed candidates.
  2. Political Support: The CLC provides campaign support through direct mail, advising, and other means. The CLC runs an annual boot camp for the state’s most promising candidates with training from the nation’s leading strategists, pollsters, and media authorities.
  3. Policy Advocacy: With the support of CLC staff, Steve Westly continues to weigh in on the key policy issues facing California and the nation by writing op-eds, delivering speeches, and campaigning for the causes he believes in.
